SERVPRO was called for a water odor problem at a home in Oxnard. The homeowner had previously discovered a leak in the main supply line that fed tap water into the unit and mixed with carbonation and syrup when soda was made.
The homeowner had gotten the leak fixed, and an unpleasant odor remained in the room, and he could not locate the problem. SERVPRO technicians used soft probes and thermal imaging to trace the source of the smell and found when the fountain was used, a small mixture of water and syrup was running down the back of the vintage stainless steel bar and collecting on the wall. The steel bar was placed directly against the wall, effectively blocking any airflow. The area between the bar and the wall was retaining this moisture and causing an unpleasant odor.

The drywall was showing damage from being regular dampened, so it was removed. Air movers were specially angled to direct airflow into the wall cavity behind the bar. Once the area tested for optimal dryness, we used direct spraying for the wall area, bar and floor to clean up any remaining water/syrup residue, but a slight odor remained.

Ultra low volume fogging penetrates areas odor particles hide and neutralizes them with a solvent -based deodorizing fog. Once the odor was gone, our technicians suggested to the homeowner to doublecheck the supply lines and place the bar with enough space to allow for any moisture collected during operation of the soda fountain to evaporate naturally.
